The tag team championship title for title match has had two teams added to it, the previous holders of both sets of titles, Los Ingobernables de Japon and the Briscoe Brothers, and in the process seems to have been made explicitly winner-takes-all per New Japan’s card update, which is interesting, because generally if I see non-champs added to a title-for-title match I’d assume they’re there to keep the belts separate. Both champions are looking to avenge New Japan Cup losses to their challengers, and both matches have absolute steal-the-show potential. Moving on, we’ve got the most exciting additions to the card for me, a heaping helping of hype midcard title matches in the form of Naito vs.

Quibbles aside, though, it should definitely rule, so no complaints on that level! And, if the Rainmaker does win, why zag to Switchblade at all when you could have kept the title on Tanahashi and done the first US match in their historic and epic series? Like, say, are they really going to end Jay’s title reign without a single successful defense? Gedo loves his long-term storytelling, and I could totally see Switchblade retaining, but it’s gotta be tempting to give Okada a huge win in Madison Square Garden. Their previous meetings were both great matches and I see no reason why this should be any different, but it does raise some questions for me. Okay, so addressing our new matches from the top of the card on down, we’ve got the third meeting between White and Okada, with the Rainmaker looking to dig himself out of his 0-2 hole against the Switchblade.
